Working tirelessly week after week can suppress your immune system, and when you’re finally feeling relief, there’s a chance you may end up getting sick. Why? Because your body is in flight or fight mode when you’re stressed, it works its hardest to keep you healthy. As soon as you let your guard down, though, you’re likely to catch a bug.
WHAT IF YOU HAD A MASSAGE APPOINTMENT SCHEDULED?
Unfortunately, whether you have the sniffles or the flu, staying home if you’re feeling under the weather is something our massage therapists would appreciate. Although you may be feeling good enough to get out of the house for a few hours, coming to get a massage is something that should be done when you’re healthy.
WHY CAN’T YOU GET A MASSAGE WHEN YOU’RE SICK?
Because massage works on circulating the blood and relaxing your muscles, it wouldn’t come to our surprise if you ended up feeling more under the weather if you were to get a massage. This is due to the fact that your body is trying to rid itself of waste during the massage, and moreover, trying to repair itself from illness and soft tissue soreness. Backed up sinuses and increased stages of sickness are just a few symptoms you’ll experience if you decide to go through with your massage in Woburn.
WHEN YOU’RE SICK, YOU’RE MOST LIKELY CONTAGIOUS.
Keep the health of your massage therapist in mind if you’re sick. If you are sniffling, coughing and sneezing, it’s better for you to stay home and in bed rather than spread your germs. Think about it; would you like to be giving a massage to someone who doesn’t sound or look healthy? We didn’t think so. Take the health of our massage therapists into consideration and ask yourself if their health would be in danger if you kept your scheduled massage. Here are some recommendations to live by when you have a scheduled massage but end up under the weather:
- If you have the flu: Stay home and in bed.
- If you have a fever and are nauseous or contagious: Stay home and in bed.
- If you have a bad cold: Wait until you’ve reached the post-acute state.
- If you have a minor cold: Massage is usually ok, just make sure you pack your nostrils with tissue, you should be fine.
If you’re sick and bummed out about missing your massage appointment, try to think of the benefits of staying home. For example, when you’re sick, it’s unlikely you’ll be comfortable with your head face down in the head cradle for 45 minutes. Not only will snot likely be running down from your nose, but sinus pressure may cause you to get a headache.
We hope you’re feeling better and want you to use your best judgment on keeping your scheduled massage if you’re feeling under the weather. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to give our massage therapists in Woburn at Skin To Soul a call at 844-258-5498.
